Classic Outdoor Christmas Decorations

Classic Outdoor Christmas Decorations

The type of holiday decor I gravitate to tends to be simple, classic and nostalgic. When it comes to my outdoor decor, I ALWAYS incorporate red along with fresh greenery.

We have a double door front entryway as well as a side porch. For all of my planters I arrange them using fresh cut greens (most of which I cut from trees and bushes in our own yard, or from our family/friends.) I have a post HERE explaining the step by step directions to create an easy, beautiful and inexpensive arrangement in your own planters!

I arrange my outdoor decorations pretty much the same every year, but I do change out by bows, types of wreaths (fresh boxwood tend to be my favorite, but sometimes I do pine), and the filler for my planters varies depending on what I am able to gather. I do also end up getting a new coir doormat for my side door since they tend to wear out a great deal during the winter.

At the end of the post I will provide sources for the items shown. I encourage you to support your local farmers and purchase live versus artificial greenery! It supports the farming industry and is better for the environment!!

Also, consider up-cycling and utilizing vintage items (they are easy to find on Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, eBay and your local consignment/estate/consignment furniture shops).

Double Front Doors:

  • Boxwood Wreaths - Purchased at Garden’s Dream in Cromwell, CT.

  • Red Velvet Ribbon (I always tie my own bows) purchased at Michael’s crafts.

  • Gold Bells - I purchased two strands, took them off the original string, and re-strung them on making them each separate lengths to hang from the wreaths.

  • Cast Iron Urn Planters - vintage, purchased at an antique store, I do see them on Facebook marketplace sometimes.

  • Birch Logs - gifted from a friend who takes down trees for a living, thanks Bill!!!

  • Greenery - pine clippings are from bottom of our Christmas tree, a friends large white pine fell in her backyard so I took clippings from that, my grandmother has cypress/cedar in her yard so I pruned that tree, boxwood clippings from my in-laws yard (they also have holly which I have used in the past, but not this year).

  • Berries, gold branch, and pine cones-purchased at Michael’s crafts.

Side Door/Porch Decor:

  • Boxwood Wreath/Velvet Ribbon, see above.

  • Ice Skates - vintage, purchased on Facebook marketplace.

  • Vintage Sled - purchased at an antique shop in Clinton, CT. Facebook marketplace often has them listed as well.

  • Vintage Skis - purchased at an estate furniture store in Middletown, CT.

  • Vintage Dietz Lantern - came from my grandmothers basement.

  • Olive bucket - older from Target
