My Top Picks for Jeans
This year, I was in desperate need for some good jeans. All of my jeans either didn't fit, or were really old and outdated (hello bootcut) so I needed a few new pairs. I must start by saying that I am so very grateful that the "designer" jean craze is over because dropping a hundred and fifty bucks or more on a pair of jeans is NOT. MY. JAM.
So I have no idea why finding jeans that fit well has been such a challenge, but it has. I follow many fashion bloggers and have taken their advice and ordered many pairs of jeans, went to Nordstroms and tried on a million more, and still things just weren't working out. Until recently!
So, I finally found a few pairs of skinny jeans that fit REALLY well and do not break the bank. I also am going to include my favorite boyfriend jeans that I have had for a while and still love, and have created a number of loyal fans who reported back after my Instagram post in the Spring.
Just for reference, I am 5'3 and typically wear a size 26/2, but depending on fit occaisonally a 25/0. I hate hemming, but also find that petite sizes don't fit right. So what I found were all regular length, fit me well and did not need alterations.
So here we go...
Best Basic Dark Wash Skinny
Why I Love Them:
They have stretch, don't slip off my butt/hips (you know when you have to keep yanking them up), are a great color wash that can be dressed up or down, and are tight at the ankle so they fit easily under boots. Lastly, they are regular price for $79.50 but Loft is always having sales, so I got mine half off. They do run true to size, I got the 26/2 in these.
Best Mid Rise Button Fly:
Why I Love Them: First, the button fly adds a little fun and character and looks great when you do a half tuck with shirts or sweaters. There is a raw hem edge, which is also a popular look right now, and it looks great leaving the raw hem exposed or cuffed. There is a good stretch to these jeans and the rise is mid; for me it is higher up on my waist than the Performance Denim Leggings. I LOVE the higher rise, if you are a mom you know what I am talking about. The buttons on the fly are a copper color which I also really think is pretty. Overall this is just a really fun, comfortable and flattering jean. The Loft jeans do come in tall and petite. I wore my regular size 2.
Best Distressed Skinny Jean:
Why I Love Them:
First, they are SUPER soft, and the denim is on the thinner side, so overall just incredibly comfortable. They have the perfect amount of distressing and a medium wash. The rise is also perfect and doesn't leave you with your butt hanging out nor do they slide down causing you to constantly be yanking them. The bottoms are meant to be cuffed so they are not as tight on the ankle as other skinny jeans, but since the denim is thin you could still easily get them to zip inside of boots. I LOVE them. I tried them on to wear at a local boutique photo shoot/collaboration and was SO EXCITED about how well they fit. My mother bought a pair by the same brand with no distressing. If you are a little taller I still think these would work because there is definitely some extra fabric at the bottom, but I cuff mine, or tuck them in boots. By the way, The Dressing Room has a great selection of Articles of Society Denim. Check them out!
(If you are not local the Dressing Room Boutique can ship!)
Best Black Jeans:
Why I Love Them:
Truth be told I got these last year and I have worn them SO much I may buy another pair because they are on such steady rotation. Not to mention they are around 40 bucks! Again, rise covers my lower belly, they don't slip, they are tight but not too tight, are ripped at the knee to give you a little bit of an edgey look. Trust me when I tell you, these are such great black jeans. You will wear them constantly.
Best Boyfriend Jean:
Why I Love Them:
Well for starters it makes me feel kinda cool that I'm not yet too old to be shopping at American Eagle. But seriously, the fit on these is really great. I tried on a lot of boyfriend jeans and my biggest issue was a lot of them made my butt look really flat and/or dumpy. These are really sophisticated terms I am using people, hope you can follow. These definitely don't give you lift or definition, they are not supposed to; they are a looser fit, but overall I found them to be the most flattering. I did get the ones with the heavy distressing/rips but they do have less distressed options. I also have them in a light and a medium wash. For me they ran a little big, so I sized down to a zero.
Best White Jeans:
I have a pair of Tory Burch white jeans that I have had for YEARS. I can't even link them because they are no longer available. They are also pretty gross and beaten up, so come spring time I will be on the hunt for a new pair of white jeans. I can keep you posted when that time comes. I do think that a great pair of white jeans is truly a wardrobe staple so that's why I added it!
