The Story of the Girl who is Always Late, and Her Husband Who Hates It
Let me first start off by saying I was/am NEVER late to class, doctors appointments or work. I do unfortunately have a habit of being late to parties or anything else that in my mind does not have an absolute deadline for me to be present. This drives my husband INSANE. He is the opposite, he is early to EVERYTHING, no matter what. Our first Christmas as a married couple (I will be shamed for sharing this story), I was taking my time doing my make up, because I woke up late on Christmas morning so we were running late for brunch at my in laws house. He was ready and pacing, and getting more and more annoyed by the minute, then just left. Yes, left his wife on Christmas Day because I was running late. He called his father to express his frustration and the wise man my father in law is, said "Trevor, go home and get your wife." He did. I remind him time and time again that this is just me, and we have three kids now ,which makes it even more challenging and he needs to get over it.
However, as much as I would like to defend myself and my actions I cannot help but acknowledge where my husband is coming from and do some self-reflection. Being late because you have a legitimate excuse (3 kids who were all ready to go then 2 out of the three decided to poop as you are literally about to load them in the car, just saying) is one thing. However, there are absolutely times where I should, and could, but don't get my *ss in gear. For most parties we attend, we are not the only ones who aren't there at the exact start time, and honestly the host typically could care less. This, however, is not the point. My husband prides himself on certain values that are meaningful to him. He honors and accommodates MANY of of my life values, so in return I should make greater efforts to not only have respect for my husband's values, but also be a more courteous guest.
Am I saying I am all of a sudden going to become the queen of punctuality? No, probably not, but I am going to make a conscious effort to try (even if he did leave me on Christmas Day back in 2009... no grudges I swear!)
I ended up writing this post based on this hilarious and appropriate sweatshirt, that I just couldn't resist buying. May not be for everyone (hopefully), but the black booties from Target sure are!!! They are AWESOME.
See below for links for everything I am wearing.
